Valley Oak SPCA Contract Approved
The City Council approved a new contract for animal control services with Valley Oak SPCA for $608,300 at its Dec. 17 meeting.
The new contract calls for all revenues for licensing and permit fees to be paid directly to the City. Previously, those fees were collected and kept by VOSPCA as part of their contract. The new contract results in a $20,000 reduction, in the Animal Control Enterprise fund, from FY 2011/12 and that amount will drop significantly in FY 2013/14, the first full year of the new contract.
Major changes to the contract include transfering licensing responsibilities to the City with a goal of increasing licensing revenue at least 10% per year during the two-year budget. All kennel fees paid by owners redeeming their animals will continue to be collected by VOSPCA but those fees will now be returned to the City, estimated to be between $50,000 to $85,000 annually.
