In his remarks, Mayor Nelsen said, "I want to thank my fellow Council Members for their show of support and trust they have shown in me by electing me Mayor of this great City. Through this journey, I ask for your continued support, slap me when needed, guide me when I look lost and be there to receive the accolades for a job well done. For this position is not an 'I' thing but a ‘We’ thing."
Former Mayor Amy Shuklian administered the oath of office to newly elected Council Members Nelsen, Gubler and Greg Collins. Council members also adopted a resolution declaring the results of the Nov. 5 General Municipal Election for Visalia City Council and the Visalia Unified School District Governing Board.
Prior to the ceremony, Shuklian presented the family of Cash Shank with a special proclamation proclaiming Nov. 26 as Cash Shank Day and recognized the 5-year old who is battling a rare brain tumor as a Super Hero. The proclamation said, in part, “Cash has been an amazing ambassador for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital and an inspiration to all of us. Cash’s grandmother describes him as the ‘toughest little boy.’ His parents, Rob and Megan, and his entire family are so proud of Cash for his bravery, smiles, hugs, and fighting spirit in the midst of his adversity. Cash is a ‘Superhero’.”
