"He has tremendous experience as a fire professional," said City Manager Steve Salomon. “He is going to be a great asset to the department, the city organization and the community and will continue to move the department forward.” He added that McBee has extensive leadership experience in all aspects of fire service and all-hazards risk mitigation. He has worked with collaborations and partnerships across all levels of government to develop and implement vision and strategies.
He has served as the executive director of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs since May 2012. The organization represents fire chiefs from over 200 organizations and works collaboratively with private entities and local/state government agencies and all levels to further mutual goals. He has served as Fire Chief for the West Metro Fire Protection District in Lakewood, Colo., from April 2004 through October 2011.
His professional associations include serving as a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Fire Marshals' Association, the National Fire Protection Association. He has an associates’ degree in fire science technology from Red Rocks Community College, a bachelor’s in recreation management from Fort Lewis College and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado-Denver. He and his wife, Cindy, currently reside in Centennial, Colo.
An agreement with the City and McBee was unanimously approved by the City Council at Monday's special meeting, finalizing his appointment. McBee is expected to start in June. Interim Fire Chief Greg Glass will oversee Fire Department operations until McBee begins.
