Temporary Closure Coming to Ben Maddox Way

1.29.26

A temporary closure is coming to Ben Maddox Way, between Caldwell Avenue and Dorothea Street, starting Monday, February 2, 2026.

This stretch of Ben Maddox Way will remain closed, with detours, through Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while underground utilities are installed as part of the Caldwell Widening Project.

“This phase of the project entails underground utility work in the in the north half of the intersection of Ben Maddox Way and Caldwell Avenue,” shares Eric Bons, Senior Civil Engineer. “Closing the roadway allows crews to install the utility as quickly as possible. Ben Maddox will reopen when the work has been completed.”

Detour signs will be in place during the two-day closure and Caldwell Avenue will remain open.

The Caldwell Widening Project includes improving the existing thoroughfare to a four-lane divided roadway, providing bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage improvements, new center medians, streetlights, and street landscaping.

Construction will continue weekly until completion, which is anticipated in June 2026. The work is being performed by Avison Construction, general contractor, and overseen by City of Visalia Engineering and Building Department staff.
