Houston Community Connectivity Project Meeting

12.22.25

Join the City of Visalia at our upcoming Houston Community Connectivity Project public meeting on Thursday, January 22 at 6 p.m. at the Houston Elementary School Cafeteria.

“This is a follow up of the Project that was presented to the public in 2022. The preliminary project design has started, and getting the community’s input is the important next step before finalizing the design,” shares Rudy Lopez, Project Manager, City of Visalia.

The Houston Community Connectivity Project consists of constructing multimodal improvements by filling in missing sidewalks segments, updating curb ramps, and adding new protected bike lanes and intersections within the Houston Elementary School attendance boundary. These improvements will permanently change the configuration of the street and eliminate parking spaces.

The Project is bound by Mooney Boulevard, Dinuba Boulevard, Prospect Avenue, and Murray Avenue, and will create safer school routes while improving the overall connectivity to destinations in and out of the neighborhood.

Thanks to robust community input and support, the Houston Community Connectivity Project was an awardee in the California Transportation Committee’s 2023 Active Transportation Program, receiving $2.5 million dollars in funding.

Area residents of all ages are invited to attend the Houston Community Connectivity Project public meeting on Thursday, January 22 to provide their input and be a part of these important improvements. The meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Houston Elementary School Cafeteria, at 1200 N. Giddings St.

“We will provide a project update, including the project design parameters which will result in a permanent slowdown of traffic flow and elimination of existing parking spaces. This is a great opportunity for residents to share their feedback!” adds Lopez.

Preliminary project layouts will be displayed at the meeting and City staff will be on hand to dive into details, answer questions, and receive comments from the public.
