Tragic July 4th Structure Fire Results in Fatality
On Thursday July 4, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Visalia Fire units were dispatched to a report of a tree fire located on N. Stover in Visalia.
While units were responding additional reports indicated that the fast moving tree fire had spread to a residence prompting dispatch of a full first alarm structure fire response.
Fire units first to arrive on scene reported a single family residence fully involved in fire with potential to spread to three adjacent structures. As suppression efforts were taking place family members reported that they had not been able to contact the occupant.
Damage to the structure and fire involvement was extensive hampering search efforts. As the fire was being knocked down, crews searched the structure and located the occupant, deceased. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Visalia Fire Department Fire Investigators, Tulare City Fire Department Fire Investigators, and the Visalia Police Department are working together to determine the cause of the fire.
Three engines, two ladder trucks, two battalion vehicles, two investigation units and a City of Tulare Investigator responded with a total of 22 fire personnel responding.
This incident is currently under investigation with the Visalia Police Department. If anyone has any information that would assist the Police Department in regards to this case, please contact Detective James Cummings at 559-713-4722.
