Akers Closed for Modoc Culvert Replacement
As part of the Modoc Box Culvert Replacement for the Tulare County Ditch Irrigation Company, a road closure is now in place at Akers Street.
“The work being done will replace the box culvert, which in this case is a cast-in-place and a monolithic pour (concrete placed all at once) that is located under the roadway to deliver water from one side of the road to the other,” shared Abraham Folk, City of Visalia Engineering Technician. “The replacement and expansion of the culvert will help with future road widening of Akers Street when that roadway is built to full width in the future.”
Akers Street, both north and south bound between Riggin Avenue and Avenue 320, is closed at the Modoc Ditch crossing to allow the work to be done. The closure will remain in place through Monday, February 11, 2019.
“The intersection of Riggin and Akers will remain open for local access to Ridgeview Middle School to the north,” added Folk. “The posted detours will be Shirk Road to the west and Demaree Street to the east via Riggin Avenue for westbound and eastbound traffic. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as the needed replacement work is done.”
