Fire Damages South Visalia Home

On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 7:36 p.m., the Visalia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on W. Whitendale.

Upon the arrival of the first fire unit, the Fire Department found a single family residence with light smoke showing from the structure. Upon further investigation, they found the residence charged with smoke and a fire located in a rear bedroom.

There were several residents home at the time of the fire and all were able to escape without injury. Fire personnel was able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit the damage.

The fire caused an estimated $6000 in damage to the structure and contents.  The cause of the fire was accidental, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

The Visalia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms should be installed in all homes, as those that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire injuries and death. Learn more about smoke alarms and safety from the National Fire Protection Association.
