South Side Community Center Planning Meeting

The City of Visalia Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to attend a public outreach meeting to discuss the conceptual South Side Community Center on Wednesday, October 11th at 6 p.m. at Cottonwood Creek Elementary School, located at 4222 S. Dans Street.

Several years ago, the City of Visalia designated a 9 acre parcel of land at the corner of County Center and Visalia Parkway (next to the Police Substation) to be used as a potential South Side Community Center.

Agenda for South Side Community Center Planning Meeting

A small task force has been meeting to work with the community to develop a conceptual design for the potential facility.  This includes determining potential uses for the facility as well as how it will be used, what it will look like and estimated costs to construct and maintain.

“Five of the six community centers owned by the City of Visalia are located on the north side,” said Jeannie Greenwood, Visalia Parks and Recreation Director.  “Although the new facility is conceptual at this time, it’s exciting to think about expanding our reach to the south side of the community.”

The current vision is to design a new multi-generational facility that would serve all ages.  Senior and tot programs could be offered during the daytime hours while school is in session;  local youth would utilize the facility for after school programs and, evenings would be utilized for enrichment classes and organized sports programs for both adults and children.

Visalia citizens interested in sharing their ideas and interests for the conceptual community center are encouraged to attend this public outreach meeting.
