East Visalia will soon see a new addition under construction, as the City Council awarded the construction bid for the Visalia Emergency Communication Center (VECC) at this past Monday’s Council meeting.
Located near School Avenue and Burke Street, the VECC will be the permanent home for the Emergency Communication Center (911 Dispatch), the Emergency Operation Center, Traffic Management Center and the City’s secure Data Center for Information Services.
The construction contract was awarded to low bidder Oral E. Micham, of Woodlake, in the amount of $11,316,000.00.
The VECC will be an 18,790 square-foot facility and construction is scheduled to take 14 months, finishing up in March of 2017. Additional time will allow for interior set-up of the facility and move-in of staff, and the official opening is slated for summer of 2017.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the VECC will take place in late January, staff are currently working on securing a date and time. The groundbreaking will be open to the public and include support from future VECC tenants Visalia Police Department and Fire Department Administration staff.
