New Parks & Recreation Director Named

Jeannie Greenwood has been named the City of Visalia’s new Parks & Recreation Director. City Manager Michael Olmos made the announcement at the December 7th City Council meeting following confirmation of the appointment by the Council.

Most recently, Mrs. Greenwood has been serving as a Department Manager with the City of Visalia where she oversees the Recreation Division. Current City of Visalia Parks & Recreation Director Vince Elizondo is retiring at the end of the year after a long career in public service, which most recently included 11 years with the City.

In Mrs. Greenwood’s time with the City, she has worked to expand the Department, its services and facilities through capital projects, community partnerships, and developing recreational opportunities. She has been a part of the development of City parks, including Riverway Sports Park, and is a member of the planning team for East Side Regional Park.

Mrs. Greenwood has reintroduced programs that serve thousands of residents such as the Eggstravaganza and Concerts in the Park, while bringing new offerings that include Corporate Games, and the most recent Visalia Senior Games, as well as the brand new Enchanted Ice Garden ice skating rink coming to Garden Street Plaza coming later this month.
