Fire Chief Bio

Fire Chief Doug McBee

Douglas McBee has served in the public sector a majority of his working career. He has extensive knowledge of Public Safety, Public Administration and Non Profit Corporation management. He presently serves as the Fire Chief for the City of Visalia, California Fire Department. The City is located in the Central Valley of California adjacent to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Visalia is a beautiful City of approximately 130,000 with 6 fire stations and an excellent career Fire Department. Chief McBee has been with the City since June of 2013.

Prior to coming to Visalia, Doug served as the Executive Director of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association as well as the CEO of McBee and Associates, LLC.  He spent approximately 8 years as the Fire Chief/CEO of the West Metro Fire Protection District located in the greater Denver metropolitan area from 2004 through 2011 and 27 years with the City of Aurora, Colorado Fire Department from 1977 to 2004 as a Chief Officer.

Doug is known for his leadership skills during challenging economic environments. His strength is bringing various stakeholders together to collaborate and find reasonable solutions to complex problems. He believes in being an integral part of the community he serves.  He presently is on the Steering Committee of Leadership Visalia and is Chairman of the Visalia Unified School District Measure E Bond Committee. 

Doug is a native of Colorado and enjoys spending free time with his family and loves the outdoors. He is an avid skier and hiker. He has a goal of traveling the world with his wife as time allows.
