What is a Green Building?
Green building is the use of design and construction practices that enable buildings and their sites to be more sustainable. More specifically, green buildings do the following:
When compared to conventional design, green buildings generally have a lesser impact on human health and the environment and, in terms of economics, cost less to maintain and operate and often cost little or no more than traditional design over their life-cycle. Given these obvious benefits, it is not surprising that green building design and construction have gained wide momentum during the recent years as more and more cities have begun realizing its environmental, economic, and health benefits. Although cities may not have direct power over private residential and commercial properties, they do have some ability to regulate these structures and to provide incentives for building owners and developers to embrace green building standards.
