2020 Census

The 2020 U.S. Census is complete and the numbers are in.

The results of the 2020 Census will now determine not only our representation in Congress, but how over $115 billion is spent every year from now until 2030 on California schools, healthcare, housing, transportation, and other vital programs in our neighborhoods.

Why the Census Matters

Fire departments. Schools. Even roads and highways. Police Officers. Parks.

Census data provides funding for services & infrastructure in our community, including healthcare, transportation, political representation, roads, schools & housing. $675 billion+ in federal funds flows back to states & cities based on this data. The amount of federal funding that Visalia and our Tulare County communities receive is based off of this count.

FAQs

Is Census data confidential?
Yes, Census responses were and are confidential and protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Code. The Census Bureau will never share personal information with immigration or law enforcement agencies. Employees of the Census Bureau also swear a lifetime oath to protect respondent data.

What is the U.S. Census?
The U.S. Constitution requires a headcount every ten years of each person, including children and undocumented immigrants, in the United States. The information gathered from the census survey is incredibly important as it determines the number of U.S. Representatives each state has in the House of Representatives and how $675 billion should be distributed each year to states and local governments.

When will the census count take place?
The Census is now completed and will not take place again until April 1, 2030.

Who should be counted?
Absolutely everyone! People of all ages, ethnicities, citizens and non-citizens should be included in the survey count. If you did not respond, the 2020 Census is closed.
