Eateries & Industrial Park Developments See Growth

2017 is proving is already proving to be a year of growth, as Visalia sees new restaurants, growth in the Industrial Park and healthy numbers in building permit activity.

Fast foodies can delight in new restaurants, including Popeye's Louisanna Kitchen, which will show off it's New Orleans heritage at it's first Visalia location. The proposed site is a vacant pad at the Visalia Marketplace Shopping Center at Noble and Demaree. A new Burger King is being proposed at the northwest corner of Ben Maddox and Dourlgas, redeveloping the corner, while a Del Taco is proposing their second Visalia location near the southeast corner of Dinuba and Riggin.

The Industrial Park continues to grow with a 125,000 square foot industrial building proposed at the northwest corner of Neely and Hurly. Adding to the area, two new industrial buildings are working their way through the site plan review process. One, a 6,000 square foot facility for Comfort Now, a local air conditioning and heating company, the other a 8,000 square foot facility for an ammonia refrigeration service. To top it off, local manufacturer Voltage Multipliers is expanding with a new equipment room addition to their location on W. Roosevelt.

In building permit activity, 3,000 square feet of new development is coming via two commercial permits. The first month of the new year saw 37 new single family and six multi-family housing starts.sep_bar_down.jpg

Host A Guest From Visalia Sister City Miki, Japan

Want to learn more about the Japanese culture? Consider hosting a guest from Miki, Japan, one of Visalia's Sister Cities, when guests travel to Visalia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Sister City relationship this April.

We are currently seeking host families for our visitors, and accommodations are needed for approximately 13 guests. Host families offer their friendship and hospitality in accommodating our guests, who are expected to arrive in the evening on Thursday, April 20th and leave the morning of Tuesday, April 25th.

Hosting families are asked to provide a bed for the guest, with their own room.  Hosting families will pick up their guest in the evening and return their guests to the City Administration Office in the morning so that Miki guests are prepared for each day's schedule.  On most days, dinner will be provided by the City, but host families are asked to provide their guests breakfast.

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 22nd, host families are tentatively scheduled to host their guests and show them some part of Visalia or the surrounding area as part of this cultural exchange.   If you are interested in hosting a family, please contact Allison Mackey, Communications Manager at 713-4535 or at [email protected]sep_bar_down.jpg

Visalia First For Community Flexibility Pilot Program

Visalia will be the first in the nation to execute an agreement with the United States Department of Transportation for the Community Flexibility Pilot Program.

A program first authorized by Congress in 2004, no airport had ever applied to the program. Visalia City Council authorized the City Manager to execute the Department of Transportation Grant Agreement for the Community Flexibility Pilot Program in the amount of $3,703,368. These monies will fund a hangar development project at the Visalia Municipal Airport.

With the abrupt departure of SeaPort airlines as Visalia's contracted carrier in January 2016, the City had cause to believe that there was no long term viability for air service in Visalia. Visalia and many small communities across the nation are struggling to support air service, and improvements made possible by the Program will provide a direct benefit to civil aviation and provide revenue for the airport fund.

The airport improvements, made possible by the grant funding, will result in an estimated $131,000 in new airport revenue annually at buildout and full tenancy.sep_bar_down.jpg
