Connect with Visalia's Finest

Visalia's first responders work day in and day out to serve the community they love. Whether its responding to an emergency call or helping a citizen with a concern, the staff of the Visalia Police and Fire Departments are an integral part of our vital city. Thanks to two upcoming special events, citizens have the opportunity to meet these everyday heroes, no emergency required.

Visalia Police Department will be celebrating National Coffee with a Cop Day, the next date in the ongoing series, on Friday, October 7th. Taking place at the Corner Bakery Cafe, 4021 S. Mooney Boulevard, from 8 - 10 a.m., citizens of all ages are welcome to attend.

Coffee with a Cop removes the barriers that can come between officers and residents by providing an informal environment where everyone can discuss community matters, share stories and connect.

After finishing your cup of joe and pastry, mark your calendar for the Visalia Fire Department's Open House on Saturday, October 15th. Celebrating National Fire Prevention Month, Visalia Fire is opening the doors, or in this case, bays, at Fire Station 53. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., as community members are invited to enjoy information booths, fire demonstrations, station tours and kids activities.

For more information on these and other upcoming City special events, visit www.visalia.city or check the City of Visalia Facebook event page.

Microchip and Vaccine Clinic This Sunday

The Visalia Animal Care Center is inviting dog and cat owners to a special Microchip and Vaccine Clinic on Sunday, October 9th from 12 - 2 p.m.

Microchipping is an important tool, along with animal licensing, that can help a lost pet be returned home. A simple procedure, a microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, and is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin, between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to a routine shot, takes only a few seconds, and is much like a vaccination, with no anesthetic required.

Dog licenses will be available for purchase for pets that live within City of Visalia limits and each purchase of a Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo and Parainfluenza (DHPP) or Feline rhinotracheitis virus, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia (FVRCP) comes with a free rabies vaccine (for animals within Visalia city limits).

No reservation is necessary, the Clinic will run until 2 p.m. For the safety of all attendees and their pets, dogs must be on a secure leash and cats must be in a secure carrier. Those with animals not properly secured will be turned away. For more information, call the Visalia Animal Care Center at 713-4700.
