Construction Impacts Continue on Mineral King

Construction continues on Mineral King Avenue, as crews move forward with the City of Visalia’s sewer trunkline upgrade.

The Mineral King Lane closure has extended, with one westbound lane open through Saturday, 5/21, from Mooney Boulevard to Woodland Street. Currently, Mineral King Avenue from west of Woodland Street to east of County Center remains closed with detour signs in place. Intermittent closures of Woodland at Mineral King Avenue, during nighttime hours, are also expected.

As work continues, citizens are encouraged to stay in the know through text message updates. By texting “mineralking” to 84483 individuals can subscribe to text message updates. Additionally, follow construction and road closure updates on the City website at www.visalia.city and the official City of Visalia Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofvisalia.

For further information on the Mineral King Avenue construction, contact Nancy Lockwood, [email protected], 733-3737; or Allison Lambert, City of Visalia, at 713-4535; [email protected].

Help Shape the Active Transportation Plan

It’s time to update the City’s bikeway masterplan and we need your help! This year though, in order to be consistent with the current funding opportunities available, the City has decided to prepare its first ever Active Transportation Plan.

An Active Transportation Plan moves beyond just bicycle amenities, and strives to plan for and promote all forms of Active Transportation. Active Transportation includes everything from walking and bicycling, to wheelchairs, mobility scooters and more.

In order for the City of Visalia’s ATP to truly reflect the needs of the community, we are asking that you provide feedback and ideas on ways to improve existing facilities, and plan for future projects.

The City of Visalia and our consultant, Quad Knopf, will be holding two public workshops to obtain your input. Join us Thursday, May 19th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Whitney High School Cafeteria or on Saturday July 9th from 9:30 AM – 11:30 a.m. at the Manuel F. Hernandez Community Center Game Room.
