Water Flows Into Recharge Basins

The sweet sound of water flowing from Packwood Creek into the City of Visalia’s groundwater recharge basin (at the future East Side Regional Park) kicked off the week, as the water marks the first exchange between the Tulare Irrigation District (TID) and the City.

At a press conference held this past Monday, Mayor Steve Nelsen and TID Board Chair David Bixler explained how the agreement between the two agencies will bring up to 6,500 acre-feet of water to Visalia. Flowing through City creeks, this water reaches basins where it saturates into the ground, helping Visalia’s water table rise.

“It will be a great benefit for farmers and the residents,” stated Bixler.

This is the second water delivery to Visalia in the past six months, late December 2015 the City received water from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineer Terminus Dam release, which brought water Creekside Basin at McAuliff St. and Mill Creek, and to Lisendra Basin at Walnut Ave. and Roeben St.

“We all play a role when it comes to water,” shared Kim Loeb, City of Visalia Natural Resource Conservation Manager. “These water releases are important and serve our citizens, but it’s it important that we all conserve, follow the watering regulations and use as little water as possible.”

Visalia Is Jumping For Joy

Slated for a summer 2016 opening, Visalia will soon be home to a “Skywalk” style trampoline park recreational facility.

The City of Visalia Planning Commission approved the necessary permit and the building that was formerly home to Longs Drugs, at the Mineral King Shopping Center, is now on track to be the future site of “Quantum Leap”. The existing 30,000 square foot building will be filled with a variety of trampoline style attractions, including trampoline dodgeball, foam pits, trampoline walls and basketball courts and a Ninja Warrior obstacle course.

Situated perfectly in the same shopping center that is home to Chuck E. Cheese and Roller Towne, Quantum Leap will serve jumpers of all ages and feature special events, fitness classes, gymnastics once open.

Drop Off Expired, Unused & Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Join the Visalia Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Individuals can bring their pills for disposal to the Visalia Police Department headquarters, located at 303 S. Johnson St. (Due to restrictions, liquids, needles or sharps cannot be accepted, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

A vital public safety and health issue, studies show that the majority of prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, directly out of the medicine cabinet. National Drug Take Back Day gives citizens an opportunity to properly dispose of their unused medications, as flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash both pose potential safety and health hazards.

For more information contact Visalia Police Department's Sergeant Damon Maurice at (559) 713-4216.
