AREAS WHERE LIVESTOCK CAN BE RAISED IN VISALIA
|
CITY COUNCIL DOESN’T EXPAND NEIGHBORHOODS WHERE CHICKENS CAN BE RAISED Expanding the zones where chickens can be raised in the City of Visalia didn’t fly with the City Council Monday night. The Council voted 3-2 not to allow chickens to be raised in most residential areas; however, chickens, goats, horses and other livestock can be raised in a number of neighborhoods throughout the community, specifically rural residential and agricultural areas. As noted in the map above, livestock can be raised in the ag (green) and rural residential (yellow) areas. |
IRRIGATION SCHEDULE CHANGES IN VISALIA….MAYBE FOR A SHORT TIME Per Visalia’s current Water Conservation Ordinance, the irrigation scheduled changed to three days a week as of June 1, 2015, but as the City Council heard Monday night, the City’s water provider, Cal Water, is recommending that the schedule change to two days a week in order to help the community meet the 32% water reduction required by Governor Brown’s mandate. The City Council will consider an emergency ordinance at the next meeting (June 15) that may implement the irrigation change immediately. Cal Water and City Staff will recommend other possible adaptations in order to avoid the $10,000/day fines that the State is threatening to those communities that don’t meet the mandate. |
