CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT ELECTION MAP APPROVED

The Visalia City Council adopted a map that sets City Council Districts until after the 2020 Census. The map commonly referred to as “NDC2” was unanimously approved at last night’s Council meeting. The map above shows the final districts and the District numbers as they will be in the future. Districts 1 and 2, currently occupied by Council Members Amy Shuklian (1)  and Bob Link (2) , respectively, will be up for election in 2016. Districts 3, 4 and 5, occupied by Council Members Warren Gubler (3), Greg Collins (4) and Steve Nelsen (5), respectively, will be up for election in 2018.  The map was designed to meet the State and Federal Voting Rights Guidelines, and District 4 currently has the highest Hispanic population in terms of total population (70% Hispanic), Hispanic citizen voting age population (57%) and Hispanic registered voters (54%).

The filing period for the November 2016 election will begin in June of 2016. For more detailed versions of the map visit the City’s webpage at www.visalia.city.

East Side Regional Park Project Workshop Compares Alternatives

Two conceptual ideas for the new East Side Regional Park and Groundwater Replenishment Project will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 18 in San Joaquin C&D at the Visalia Convention Center, 303 E. Acequia Ave. The public is invited to provide input and ideas on these concepts.

The East Side Regional Park and Groundwater Replenishment Project integrates groundwater recharge basins with regional park facilities at the 248-acre complex, located north of Highway 198 between the large, dual-tower pole electrical lines and Road 152. The public is encouraged to attend each of the Community Workshops to fully participate in the park design process.

At this forth workshop, Workshop #4 will present two alternatives which will be reviewed and evaluated by the participants to determine which alternative, solution or options for the park should be developed into the final park master plan.

For more information on the project, go to the City’s website at www.visalia.city or contact Doug Damko at [email protected].
