Great Lakes Council's choice
Great Lakes bested SeaPort as the City Council voted to affirm the decision of the Air Service Subcommittee to send a letter of support to the Department of Transportation endorsing Great Lakes Airlines as the provider of Essential Air Service for Visalia and the Central Valley. The City has supported proposals from Great Lakes since 2005, and the carrier has worked successfully with the City over the past 4 years to provide better hubs and connectivity for local passengers. The airlines plans to continue service to Los Angeles and increase the frequency of daily flights. The City had received proposals from two carriers, Great Lakes and Seaport Airlines, which proposed several flights per day to Burbank-San Diego and Merced-Oakland. The Seaport bid for service was $159,983 higher for the Visalia portion of the proposal. For the complete staff report, click here.
