Balanced Budget Adopted
The Visalia City Council unanimously adopted a two-year balanced budget, the first in four years, for 2012-14. The new budget eliminated six General Fund positions and made changes in personnel totaling $746,000 in savings, and increased fees (See Increases, Decreases). The hiring of nine Measure T firefighters was delayed until September, a savings of $170,000. The replacement of two athletic light standards, totaling $192,000 was approved for Recreation Park Stadium, but a decision to develop a water feature in Recreation Park was delayed until the July 16 meeting along with further discussion on proposed improvements to the City Council chambers and additional funding for the non-profit grant program. The 2012/13 budget totals $250,555,331 and $135,863,746 for FY 2013/14. For the complete staff report, click here.
