Road Closure Coming to Demaree and Houston

As part of the Major Street Rehabilitation Project, a road closure has been scheduled for the intersection of Demaree Street and Houston Avenue starting Saturday, 6/23.

The closure will occur over two weekends and is anticipated to occur on Saturdays only for this phase of the project.

“This phase of the Rehabilitation Project consists of grinding off the existing asphalt, proof rolling the aggregate base and overlaying with hot mix asphalt and paving mat,” shares Chantha Chap, City of Visalia Associate Engineer. “Additionally, the project includes the upgrade of some existing curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.”

This closure is broken down into two Saturdays:
  • Saturday, 6/23/18: The east leg of Houston Avenue at the intersection with Demaree Street will be closed on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • The closure extends 200 feet to the east of Demaree Street prohibiting westbound traffic accessing Demaree Street.  Demaree Street northbound and southbound will remain open throughout the closure.
    • Westbound traffic on Houston will be detoured to Ferguson Avenue via  County Center Street and Demaree Street.
  • Saturday, 6/30/18: The west leg of Houston Avenue at the intersection with Demaree Street will be closed on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • The closure extends 200 feet to the west of Demaree Street prohibiting eastbound traffic accessing Demaree Street.  Demaree Street northbound and southbound will remain open throughout the closure.
    • Eastbound traffic on Houston will be detoured to Ferguson Avenue via Linwood Street and Demaree Street.
Law enforcement will have emergency access to the roadway during the closure and the nearby residents and businesses will have local access to their properties.
