Council Approves Changes to Transit

The City Council has approved a variety of recommendations made by Visalia Transit (VT) at the Monday, March 5th Council meeting.

"These changes are currently planned to take effect on Saturday, August 4, 2018," stated Melody Murch, Assistant Finance Director
and interim Transit Manager.

Changes include:
  • Fare Increases and Requests to T-PASS
    • Fare increases will take effect in August 2018.
    • Council has also authorized City staff to request an increase to the Tulare County Association of Governments (TCAG) administered T-PASS.
    • T-PASS is a countywide transit pass accepted by all Tulare County Transit agencies.  An increase to the T-PASS price will require coordination and agreement between all transit agencies affected and has not yet been approved.

  • Final Run of the Day Changes
    • For buses on Routes 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 15 final run of the day will be cut.
    • This decision was made based upon either low ridership in the final hour of the transit day, or because the final bus loop was not able to return to its point of origin by the scheduled end of the transit day.

  • Route 6 will be redirected from traveling south down Shirk and east on Hurley to travel east on Goshen and south down Akers bypassing a section of the route which has not been generating any ridership.
  • Route 12 will be modified to end in Farmersville and will no longer travel to Exeter.
  • Route 9 will continue to serve Exeter and the two routes will meet up at Visalia Road and Farmersville Road to allow riders the option of traveling on either route from that point.
"A public process will be conducted by VT prior to the implementation in August 2018 to educate transit riders on these changes and to provide a forum for their comments and concerns," added Murch.
