Council Approves Changes to Housing Element
At the December 18th City Council meeting, the Council approved changes to the City's General Plan Housing Element.
This brings new housing policies that encourage increased development densities, reduce permit processing times and provide incentives for affordable housing.
The adoption of Ordinance No. 2017-13 increases the number of permitted multi-family dwelling units from 60 units to 80 units in R-M-2 and R-M-3 zones and increases building height in R-M-3 zone to allow structures up to four stories. Additionally, it brought revisions stemming from the Housing Element Update to comply with recent State Housing law mandates.
The ordinance will go into effect 1/17/18.
In other Council business, Police Chief Jason Salazar introduced new Visalia PD officers Eric Nunez Del Prado and Tad Baten, and approved a one year extension of the lease agreement between Top of the Third, owners of Visalia Rawhide, and the City of Visalia for the baseball stadium at Recreation Park, with no change in terms and conditions.
In Measure N news, the Council approved the purchase of a Pierce Air/Light/Rehab Mobile Unit, funded through Measure N, for the Visalia Fire Department. The Unit is a mobile vehicle designed to supply clean compressed air for SCBA’s (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), provide electricity and illumination, and provide a suitable area for firefighter rehab on fire and rescue scenes. The purchase of the Unit is a part of the approved Measure N expenditure plan.
