Over 60 Pets Now in Forever Homes

Thanks to an outpouring of community support, 63 pets are now in their forever homes.

"We are so thankful to everyone that helped make our "Clear the Shelters" adoption event such a huge success," said Ivy Ruiz, Visalia Animal Services Supervisor. "In total, 60 dogs and three cats found their forever homes and now are part of a loving, forever family."

One of nearly 700 shelters across the country, and the only in Visalia to take part in the official campaign, Visalia Animal Services teamed up with KSEE 24, Eyewitness News 47 and Telemundo 51 for the nationwide pet adoption drive that helped find loving homes for animals in need.

"We had people lined up at the door, waiting for us to open, waiting for the opportunity to be able to adopt a pet," shared Ruiz. "For many of them, this was a dream come true."

Added Ruiz, "Adoptions were not on a first-come, first served basis, but rather shelter staff determined the eligibility of adopters on what the best fit for the animal was. We were happy to answer questions about adoption and pet care and make sure we made the proper matches with pets to families."

With "Clear the Shelters" wrapped for 2017, Visalia Animal Services will continue their adoption efforts.

"We work with a great network of care centers, rescue groups, veterinarians and organizations from across the country to provide adoptable animals that come into our shelter a forever home," says Ruiz. "We'll continue educating the public about responsible animal ownership, providing spay/neutering services, licensing and microchipping and the many functions we serve the City in."
