Council Member Steve Nelsen is a long-time Visalia resident with a long history of community involvement and leadership.
Council Member Nelsen's extensive work in community engagement, non-profit organizations and local government is driven by the desire to inspire and affect change for the greater good. A San Diego native, Council Member Nelsen holds a Bachelor of Arts, Communications, from California State University Fullerton.
Council Member Nelsen has served as the City's Mayor and Vice-Mayor and is a founding member of the Visalia Advisory Flood Map Committee. During his time on the Visalia City Council, Council Member Nelsen worked directly on projects such as Imagine U lease agreement, the Visalia Animal Care Center, the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Visalia's Fire Station 53 and the Visalia Emergency Communications Center.
Since January 2015, Council Member Nelsen has served as the CEO and President of the C.A.R.E. Foundation. Advocates for dementia and Alzheimer's disease, C.A.R.E. provides information on in-home care, facilities, hospice care and more.
Council Member Nelsen served as the Golden West High School Soccer Coach from 1990 to 1999 and is a member and Deacon of Neighborhood Church. He is the proud father of three children and is the grandfather to 14 grandchildren.
