Youth Services Unit

The Youth Services Unit provides guidance and police services to the students and staff of the Visalia Unified School District (VUSD), as well as to youth in the City of Visalia, through instruction, mentoring, counseling, and enforcement.  Youth Service Officers are currently assigned to each of the District’s five high schools and five middle schools.  Youth Service Officers also provide service to the 23 elementary feeder schools in Visalia.

In partnership with the Visalia Unified School District’s Career Pathways Program, the Visalia Police Department continues to be involved with the First Responder’s Academy at Golden West High School and the Law and Justice Academy at Redwood High School.  The academies provide students, interested in careers in public safety or law, an opportunity to interact with professionals in their respective fields.  This interaction between the youth and Visalia Police Department employees is significant in the formation of future career decisions.

For further information regarding the Youth Services Unit, please contact Sergeant James Cummings at (559) 713-4721 or email [email protected].
