In order to provide you with a high-quality complete street and active street that would serve our community needs; we are conducting a survey of the surrounding area to better understand how the Santa Fe corridor can be improved to better serve our community. Click HERE to take the survey.

The Santa Fe corridor between Houston Ave and Tulare Ave is a robust north south corridor that traverses the City’s downtown, various medical destinations, City of Visalia Transit depot, dining businesses and many other community destinations.  There are existing multi use trails to the north of Houston Ave and south of Tulare Ave along Santa Fe alignment.  These factors lead to the City of Visalia’s Active Transportation Plan to identify this corridor as a prime location for a robust Class IV bicycle facility to offer a first and last mile connector opportunity for non-vehicular transportation.    The City of Visalia is afforded the opportunity to apply for grant funding to improve this portion of the Santa Fe corridor to create a robust multi modal corridor.

Potential Project: Santa Fe Cycle Track

The project proposes to construct a 2-way cycle track along the east side of the Santa Fe St from Tulare Ave to Houston Ave.  The project will include sidewalk improvements to accommodate pedestrian travel and intersection improvement to increase visibility and safety of all non-motorized road users.  This route will be developed in coordination with the community, clearly defining the safety benefits from the project as well as the parking impacts and expectations of the corridor’s functionality post project construction.

Project Goals

The goal of the Santa Fe Corridor project is to encourage residents to use the corriode more while promoting active modes of transportation by:

• Constructing the bike facility and pedestrian improvements
• Improving safety by establishing a height difference between the bike route and the roadway
• Improving safety by reworking the intersections along the corridor
• Adding corridor amenities in the form of landscaping, benches, bicycle parking and lighting where needed.
