High Speed Rail Authority hosts Industry Forum and Pre-Bid Conference: Businesses interested in working on the next phase of the High-Speed Rail Project are encouraged to attend an Industry Forum and Pre-Bid Conference Tuesday, April 8, at the Visalia Convention Center. The High Speed Rail Authority, in cooperation with the City of Visalia, is hosting the Industry Forum, from 10 am to noon, to provide an opportunity for small businesses to meet with the qualified firms eligible to submit proposals for the design-build Request for Proposals for Construction Package 2-3. The Pre-Bid Conference, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm will provide networking between prime and sub-contractors. Both events will include formal presentations that cover details and requirements of the contracts, how to bid, and the importance of small business participation. Work on Houston widening project continues:
 CalTrans has announced scheduled lane closures on Lover’s Lane and McAuliff Street in Visalia in Tulare County.  This is part of the current widening project for State Route 216 (Houston Avenue).  Crews will be working to remove and replace curbs and gutters in this area. Northbound and Southbound #2 lane (right lane) of McAuliff from Sumter Court to State Route 216 (Houston Avenue) will be closed through Friday, March 21st,   between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day.  Northbound and Southbound #2 lane (right lane) of Lover’s Lane from Sweet Avenue to Golden West Avenue will be closed through Friday, March 21st, 2014 between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day. Signal lights at the intersection of Lover’s Lane and State Route 216 and the intersection of McAuliff Street and State Route 216 are fully operational.  Due to the high volume of traffic during school drop-off and pick-up, commuters are reminded to be aware of pedestrians and pay close attention to road construction vehicles and personnel.  Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area during project work hours and use alternate routes when possible. Closures may continue for longer periods of time if necessary, due to delays caused by uncontrollable events that may occur during road construction procedures.

ity of Visalia is accepting applications from interested citizens for its City committees. Committees with openings include: Citizens Advisory, Disability Advocacy, Environmental, Historic Preservation, North Visalia Neighborhood Advisory, Waterways and Trails and Parks & Recreation Commission. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and kept for a period of two years.
