Is It Time to Change to District Elections: When the City's Charter was written nearly 100 years ago, the population was less than 10,000 and it called for at-large City Council elections. A vote by the citizens is required to change the Charter. Citizens will have the opportunity to decide if they wish to change the Charter when a ballot measure, Measure P, goes before voters on November 6. An informational flyer is intended to inform citizens on the differences between at-large and district elections and provide resources to obtain more comprehensive information. For a copy of the flyer in both English and Spanish, click here.

Avoid the 18 DUI Campaign results: The 2012 Summer/Labor Day Holiday DUI mobilization crackdown on alcohol/drug impaired drivers resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests. The campaign included sobriety checkpoints, special saturation patrols and routine patrol from Aug. 17 through midnight on Labor Day. Initial statistics show officers arrested 19 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. More AVOID anti DUI efforts will be conducted in both Tulare and Kings counties during Halloween and Thanksgiving Eve. Call 9-1-1 anytime you encounter a dangerous, impaired driver.

Lake Kaweah Dam enlargement fees to be on mail ballot: In order to provide increased flood protection, the City Council approved the preparation of a mail ballot asking residents to approve the extension and use of the current fee of 48 cents a parcel a month to increase maintenance, repair and provide upgrade improvements to the City's storm system. While this would begin to improve the maintenance component of the City's storm drains, additional monies will eventually be needed for capital improvements.
