Dine Out Visalia on July 23:
This time last year, Visalia was a finalist in USA Today and RandMcNally's competition to find the best small towns in America. This year, we're celebrating! Restaurants throughout Visalia will offer promotions and special menus on Monday, July 23, to celebrate the town's prominence as a dining destination. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be included in an all-day experience for local residents and visitors alike. Mayor to Hold Office Hours on August 1: Visalia Mayor Amy Shuklian will hold her regular office hours on Wednesday, August 1, for Visalia residents to discuss issues of concern. Walk-ins are welcome from 5 to 5:45 p.m. in the large conference room at City Hall, at 707 W. Acequia Ave. Appointments from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. can be scheduled in advance by contacting Gladys Ruiz at 713-4314. Enjoy Donuts and Discussion with Council Member Warren Gubler and Fire Chief Mark Nelson: Join them at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Donut Factory at Demaree and Riggin. This informal gathering is for any citizen who wants to come and address concerns or ask questions of Council Member Gubler or Fire Chief Nelson. Come and participate in the discussion (and enjoy a gummy bear donut or a man donut with maple and bacon on top.) Dump On Us Event to Accept Home-Generated Medical Sharps on July 21: The City of Visalia will hold its Dump On Us event from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 21, at the City of Visalia Corporation yard at 335 N. Cain in Visalia. The Dump On Us event is free and available for all Visalia residents. It's an opportunity to rid your property of any garbage, electronic waste, green waste and household hazardous waste items. A commercial shredding service will also be on site. In addition, home-generated medical sharps, which include needles, syringes and lancets, will now be accepted. They must be in approved sharps containers available  for purchase at local pharmacies. A limit of 24, 1.5 liter sharps containers (or equivalent) per person will be accepted. No drugs or prescription medicines will be accepted.
